Philipp Geist works worldwide as an artist with the media of projection mapping/light installations, photography, fine art prints and painting. Geist's projects are primarily characterized by their complexity in the integration of space, sound and moving images. His works have a painterly, compositional approach to overlays, structures and graphic elements. He also combines his analogue paintings with generative elements. His video mapping installations transform a wide variety of architectures in urban space into moving, painterly light sculptures that challenge the viewer's perception of two- and three-dimensionality. Visitors are often integrated into the light projection in the form of large-scale, accessible projections. In 2013, Geist received the German Lighting Design Award in the category of light art. In 2014, Philipp Geist developed a two-part video mapping installation in Rio de Janeiro: He projected a large area onto the Santa Marta Favela and then onto the world-famous statue of Christ, including the faces of the favela residents. In 2009 Geist performed on the royal throne in Bangkok on the occasion of the birthday of the Thai King Bhumibol. The installation was seen by 2.5 million on-site visitors. On the occasion of New Year's Eve 2016/17, Geist showed the installation Time Drifts Cologne at Cologne Cathedral. Other light installations included the Frankfurt Fades project at the Römer on the occasion of the Luminale 2018, in Venice at the Chiesa Luterana di Venezia 2017, at Nuremberg City Hall (Blue Night) 2017. The following light installations took place in 2016: in Pune (India) on the occasion of the Diwali Festival of Lights the Indian landmark Shaniwarwada, the Gate of Words project at the Azadi Tower in Tehran (Iran) in Dhaka (Bangladesh), and on the occasion of the Art Biennale for the first time in West Africa in Dakar. In 2019 he showed a projection mapping installation from 3 sides at the historic Bauhaus building by Walter Gropius in Dessau. Geist has accompanied Deutsche Grammophon's Yellow Lounge since 2004, including AV projects with Ann-Sophie Mutter, Max Richter, Daniel Hope, Mari Samuelson and Gideon Kremer. Geist implements other AV projects with conductor Kristjan Järvi and the Baltic Sea Orchestra, including Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Vienna, Moscow, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. On October 3, 2020, a large-scale installation showed 30 years of German reunification as part of the official ceremony, as well as in 2014 at the German Embassy in Prague. Other installations show Geist in Seoul, Shanghai. In 2020 he showed a comprehensive installation as part of the Helios Festival in Avignon. In 2022 he was part of the Luna Festival in Leeuwarden and the Murten Licht Festival. Geist is one of the initiators of the Weilheim Light Art Festival and artistic director. He is active in various juries and as a curator such as the Luminale Fankfurt, Genios Loci Weimar, Berlin Leuchtet.

Philipp Geist arbeitet weltweit als Künstler mit den Medien Projection Mapping/ Lichtinstallation, Fotografie, Fine Art Prints und Malerei. Geists Projekte sind in erster Linie gekennzeichnet durch ihre Komplexität in der Integration von Raum, Ton und Bewegbild. Seine Arbeiten haben einen malerischen, bildkompositorischen Ansatz von Überlagerungen, Strukturen und grafischen Elementen. Dabei kombiniert er auch seine analoge Malerei mit generativen Elementen. Seine Video-Mapping-Installationen verwandeln verschiedenste Architekturen im urbanen Raum in bewegte, malerische Lichtskulpturen, die die Wahrnehmung der Betrachter von Zwei- und Dreidimensionalität herausfordern. Oft werden die Besucher in die Licht-Projektion in Form von großflächigen, begehbaren Projektionen integriert. 2013 erhielt Geist den Deutschen Lichtdesign-Preis in der Kategorie Lichtkunst. Im Jahr 2014 entwickelte Philipp Geist in Rio de Janeiro eine zweiteilige Videomapping-Installation: Er projizierte großflächig auf die Santa Marta Favela und anschließend auf die weltbekannte Christusstatue, unter anderem Gesichter der Favela-Bewohner. 2009 bespielte Geist den königlichen Thron in Bangkok anlässlich des Geburtstags des thailändischen Königs Bhumibol. Die Installation wurde von 2,5 Millionen Besuchern vor Ort gesehen. Anlässlich der Silvesternacht 2016/17 zeigte Geist am Kölner Dom die Installation Time Drifts Cologne. Weitere Lichtinstallationen waren u.a. das Projekt Frankfurt Fades am Römer anlässlich der Luminale 2018, in Venedig an der Chiesa Luterana di Venezia 2017, am Nürnberger Rathaus (Blaue Nacht) 2017. Folgende Lichtinstallationen fanden 2016 statt: in Pune (Indien) anlässlich des Diwali Lichtfestes auf dem indischen Wahrzeichen Shaniwarwada, das Projekt Gate of Words am Azadi Turm in Teheran (Iran) in Dhaka (Bangladesch), und anlässlich der Kunst-Biennale erstmals in West-Afrika in Dakar. 2019 zeigte er am historischen Bauhaus-Gebäude von Walter Gropius in Dessau von 3 Seiten eine Projektion Mapping Installation. Seit 2004 begleitet Geist die Yellow Lounge der Deutschen Grammophon darunter waren AV-Projekte mit u.a. Ann-Sophie Mutter, Max Richter, Daniel Hope, Mari Samuelson u Gideon Kremer. Weitere AV-Projekt setzt Geist mit dem Dirigenten Kristjan Järvi und dem Baltic Sea Orchestra um u.a. Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Wien, Moskau, Abu Dhabi und Dubai. Am 3. Oktober 2020 zeigte eine grossflächige Installation im Rahmen des offiziellen Festakts 30 Jahre Wiedervereinigung Deutschland, sowie 2014 an der Deutschen Botschaft in Prag. Weitere Installationen zeige Geist in Seoul, Shanghai. In 2020 zeigte er eine flächendeckende Installation im Rahmen des Helios Festival in Avignon. 2022 war er Teil des Luna Festivals in Leeuwarden und des Murten Licht Festivals. Geist ist einer der Initatoren des Weilheim Lichtkunst Festivals und künstlerischer Leiter. Er ist in verschiedenen Juries und als Kurator tätig wie die Luminale Fankfurt, Genios Loci Weimar, Berlin Leuchtet.
